Online betting is drawing in young people

Sports betting is on the rise in Brazil, as revealed by the latest Datafolha survey released this Saturday (13).

The study discloses that 15% of Brazilians admit to betting or placing sports bets online, commonly known as “bets”. This trend is particularly noticeable among young people and men, with a third (30%) of Brazilians aged 16 to 24 reporting involvement in betting.

Regarding expenditure, the monthly average among players is R$263, equivalent to 20% of the 2023 minimum wage. Three in ten bettors say they spend more than R$100 per month.

The survey, conducted on December 5, 2023, through face-to-face interviews with 2004 people in 135 municipalities, involved individuals aged 16 or over, spanning all regions of the country. The margin of error is 2%.
